The world of Throne and Liberty expands dramatically with the launch of its first 12-player raid: Altar of Calanthia. Released on June 26, this raid introduces a dark and emotionally charged storyline involving betrayal, necromancy, and the haunting return of a once-defeated witch. For both lore enthusiasts and hardcore raiders, it’s a rich addition that deepens the game’s endgame content.
At the center of this challenge is Calanthia, a fearsome witch once allied with the Arkeum Legion and loyal to the dark figure Kazar. After suffering defeat in the Belphoret War and losing Reville Lupius—the one she revered most—Calanthia returns, consumed by grief and madness. Now, she seeks to bring Reville back using forbidden magic, threatening to plunge Sylaveth into chaos once again.

The Vision Behind the RaidAccording to Jaehyeon Kim, Lead World Content Designer, introducing raids was a natural evolution for Throne and Liberty. Raids offer a layered, long-form cooperative experience unlike traditional content. This wasn’t just about increasing the player count—this was about designing an experience that forces coordination, planning, and execution across multiple groups.
Kim shared that the biggest challenge wasn’t technical—it was conceptual. The developers had to align creatively to deliver an experience that felt new but still true to the game's mechanics and tone. This resulted in the creation of entirely new systems that support multi-phase encounters and flexible class integration.
What Awaits in the Altar of Calanthia? The raid consists of three unique phases, each increasing in intensity. The first boss, Dragail, serves as an introduction, teaching raid fundamentals like two-party coordination and positioning. The second phase escalates the difficulty with a twin boss battle, demanding fast switching, role changes, and group synergy.
The final encounter is a grand showdown with Calanthia in her enraged, corrupted form. This isn’t just a battle of numbers—it’s a mental test of timing, strategy, and trust among teammates. Players must divide into roles, execute complex maneuvers, and use their character builds to their fullest potential.

Designed for Everyone, Challenging for AllDaniel Lafuente, Globalization Design Manager at Amazon Games, noted that the team took care to strike a balance between casual accessibility and hardcore depth. For new raiders, the base experience rewards participation and teamwork. For veterans, the advanced mechanics and mastery-based challenges offer long-term replayability.
The raid also promotes class flexibility. Regardless of your weapon or build, every player has a role to play—whether as damage dealer, tank, healer, or crowd controller. This inclusive design ensures that players feel impactful and essential throughout the raid.
